Life is a Bitch
These are words of wisdom from a friend while we were rocking to ‘Hard as a rock’ at Styx in the younger, formative years. Tempted, though I am to judge the words of a then 28 year old adult Indian male, yet I loved the fellow for his concise albeit distorted view of life (and his the greatest collection of LPs I’ve seen so far and his repeated playback of ‘Live for the music’ by Bad Company).
Years have passed by and I still hear people with their reflection on the ‘is’ and ‘isn’ts’ of Life… varying in degrees from the negative to the positive…
Being the effervescent ‘seeker’ in the race to find meaning in Life, I asked myself a deeper question:
So, why are people trying to figure or define what Life is… what’s the big deal? What’s the pressing need to define what Life is? Will this gratify our so-called quest for the meaning of Life and all it has to offer? Will this answer of what Life is, and a sure-shot formula of living life continue to elude us?
And then in flash of brilliance, I asked the ‘mother of all questions’:
Why is it that people seek to find a formula to live Life as it should be ‘led’?
Happiness, in my opinion is one of the main reasons for this, if not the only one…
Enough of questions, right? But what does this word ‘happiness’ mean?
To me, it reminds me of a verse from a hymn sung during our days in school…
All things bright and beautiful
All creatures great and small
All things wise and wonderful
The Lord God made them all
Singing this song (in tune, of course) combined with the lyrics made me feel really cheerful and it still does. So in short, music made me ‘happy’. It was my means to an end.
To me, that is Life… happiness!
