Women [in Free Verse]
Jun 23rd, 2009 • Category: Featured |Prelude
The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world
And it’s the time and day to celebrate and cherish the hand in it all
Woman, what are you, and this is the question of all questions
Yet it’s the answer to all answers to which we have no plausible clue
And all that remains is a recollection of our yesterdays in the here and now
In the celebration of a woman’s life…
Excerpt I: The Young Maiden
The first time you laid your feet on Mother Earth
And felt the coldness of the morning dew, and the rays of the morning sun
Looked at the stars in amazement, and wondered if there was really an old woman on the moon
The eyes of a doting mother, the warmth of Daddy’s touch
Spoilt by the elders, stung by the envy of your siblings
Do you remember the first time you felt joy, pain and desire
Moments etched on your soul, when time was a constant blur
Precious memories of the past, some that you hold dearest to you
Life’s unique design of you, of the Young Maiden
And were you learning to live…
Excerpt II: Courting Womanhood
The turbulent years, when everything didn’t make sense
Raging hormones, and a flash of emotion made its presence felt
Much to the chagrin or delight of those around you
Imagination and reality, in antipathy of each other
Yet finding place in that teenage heart of yours
Love is all you need, you thought…
Cynicism was never a piece of the puzzle that was you
To venture into the big bad world on your own private exploration
Did Life throw you a curve ball, or did you get just you wanted, has it turned out for the better
And bring fruition to your imagination, bringing fantasy a tad bit closer to your reality
And were you still learning to live…
Excerpt III: Womanhood and thereafter
Now that these years are behind you
Do you look back in laughter, with a smile or with tears?
Or do you think that it doesn’t really matter
Do you still hold on to the Life you once imagined being the best for you?
Or do your responsibilities curtail your thoughts of introspection
Are you still learning to live…
Do you wish you could turn back the clock on your days?
Do you wish you looked like you did in your younger years?
Are you envious of people in their youth, indulging in their folly and exuberance?
Women and wine, Drawing parallels isn’t really my forte
But the rarest wines are often most cherished, often most treasured
Are you still learning to live…
Which side are you on?
Have you lived the dream, and have no idea what you’re going to do next
Or are you striving to live up to your dreams and expectations?
And the Life that you once dreamed about
Are you still learning to live…
Do you know that you have a long way to go?
Is it with expectation that you anticipate a fresh new day?
Knowing that all it takes is another day to turn it all around
To wake up and turn that page
Are you still learning to live…
Finale: A wise man speaks
I don’t know what you’re made of; and I don’t think I can try;
All I know is that you’re so beautiful in my eyes
I’m sure all you need is my affection and my love for you is true
The world around me doesn’t matter; Cause I’ve found myself in you
Well, in this life together, I’m learning to live too…
