Pamper your skin with a home facial

May 20th, 2009 • Category: Health and Beauty |

Which woman would not love to visit the spa for some pure pampering? However, the fact is, not every woman can afford the time or money. Therefore, home facial is the better option in getting that radiant and liveliness on your face without even spending a
dime. Home facials are fun and satisfying especially when you see the results. You can even invite your family members or friends to enjoy the session with you, all at a fraction of the cost of going to a spa.
You can organize a simple 5-step facial, which consists of cleansing, steaming, masking, toning and moisturizing. Here is how:

Cleansing:
First, remove all the makeup from your face. Place a warm washcloth or towel over your face to open up the follicles for deep cleansing. This also softens any dead skin cells and makes it easier to wash away. Leave a towel on for a few minutes before washing it off with your regular cleanser. Cleanse gently as you do not want to irritate your skin by vigorous scrubbing. Cotton cleansing pads work best.

Steaming:
Steaming your skin softens it and can increase blood circulation to your skin. It also helps to open follicles, allowing pores to eliminate toxins. Add hot water (not boiling) into a large basin and add a facial tea bag if you wish. Drape a towel over your head and lean over the basin. Make sure you keep your face at least 15-24 inches from the water- and further away if you have sensitive skin or enlarged pores. Steam for about 5 minutes.

Masking:
Masks are good way to draw out impurities, dirt and oil out of the skin. The best part is that many ingredients of masks can be found right in your kitchen! Just be sure you do a little homework to determine your skin type beforehand as different skin types call for different types of masks.
Clay masks are recommended for oily skin whereas food, gel and herbal masks can be applied to most skin types. Ingredients such as tomatoes, cucumber, honey, eggs, papaya and banana give your face new luster with their natural vitamins and minerals. A great and most basic mask consists simply of beaten egg white with a teaspoon of honey.

Toning:
Now that your face is sufficiently cleansed, apply a toner to clear it of any remaining soap, dead skin cells or mask residue. Avoid alcohol-based toners if you have dry skin, as they tend to dry out skin. Toners containing aloe Vera or witch hazel are recommended. Using cotton balls, apply the toner in upward and outward strokes.

Moisturizing:
Finally, apply some moisturizer to lock in the moisture to your skin. Try using one that is all natural which allows your skin to breathe freely and does not clog up pores. Leave it on for as long as possible before washing off.

So there you have it, a home facial that will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to face another day with renewed vigor.
