Acne is a word, which is familiar to everybody, as all of us have encountered with this disease one time or another in our lives. However, for definition purpose we can define acne as” a condition triggered by secretion of the oil glands of the skin which manifests in different ways such as pimples, whiteheads, blackheads, lumps or cyst and occurred mostly on the facial area and the other parts of the body which includes neck, back, shoulders, and upper arms” . Despite also affecting adults, it is commonly thought of as a teenage problem. While not a life threatening condition, acne scarring can be upsetting and disfiguring.
Acne manifests itself in different ways. These include whiteheads, blackheads, papules, pustules, nodules and cysts, and they differ in appearance and severity.
Most teenagers have some acne, with the highest level of occurrence between the ages of 12 and 17 in both sexes. Acne often clears up after several years even without treatment, but you need not wait to outgrow it. For gentle cases, one can use over-the-counter drugs to treat them.
Although acne affects both the sexes equally but still it, has some kind of distinction related to it? However, adults in their 20’s even into their 40’s can get acne. Although more women are known to have acne but the factors responsible for their occurrence is hormonal changes or emotional disturbance. However, it appears to be more severe in the case of men.
