May 29th, 2009 • Category: Fashion |

Shapes, combined with color, can either have a destructive, nullifying or enhancing effect. This is not an exhaustive list, but served the purpose to give you basic guidelines on, how to mix and match the most common colors and patterns in an effective manner.

Stripes, rectangular, tube-shaped garments and straight cut clothes, representing the wood element are very lucky when done in red, and bad when done in white or metallic colors such as gold or silver. On printed material, while stripes on the background of blue or black is lucky, while white on gold or silver is bad. Green stripes on a darker green background are not so auspicious, while green on black or blue is great.

Circular, rounded cuts, which symbolize metal, are best done in metallic colors and white. Similarly, circles or dots in these same colors are lucky on an earthly-colored background such as brown, beige and khaki.

Soft ruffles and flowing styles, denoting water, go well in shades of blue and green, as well as white. Wavy lines and motifs mix harmoniously with dots and circles, and go well with rectangular shapes, but clash with bright red and orange hues.

A-line dresses and skirts, signifying fire, are good in orange, beige and brown. Triangular or jagged motifs and zigzagged lines are auspicious on backgrounds of green or brown.

Squarish motifs and the ever-popular checks combine well with shades of red and yellow, as well as white and metallic colors. Avoid them however on a blue or black background, as this is very inauspicious. Green or blue checks are not recommended either.
